Integrated circuits are the miniature versions of circuits made within chip-sized components.

Integrated circuits are known as very important components in electronics, the components such as a resistor, capacitor, and transistor are been arranged to form an integrated circuit IC.

Advantages of integrated circuits

Explain the advantages of integrated circuits   

Compact in size

The compactness of integrated circuits (IC) is the main advantage of circuit chips, hundreds and thousands of passive and active components are integrated to form an IC.

More reliable

The integrated circuits (IC) are more reliable due to less number of connections on the outside and the inner connections are complicated but it is well fabricated.

Less weight

Less weight of integrated circuits (IC) is one of the important features because semiconductor active devices had to make more compact and less weight.

Low power consumption due to smaller size

The integrated circuits (ICs) had low power consumption due to their smaller size, the integrated circuits are made with silicon semiconductor materials, and the silicon material had the ability to make tiny integrated components.

And the silicon material had lesser power consumption ability, this is why integrated circuits had lower power consumption at smaller-sized components.

It is easy to replace an integrated circuit (IC) when there is a failure 

The total size of integrated circuits is very tiny, so we can easily replace them when any failure acquires.

Much easier replacement of ICs is due to its fewer connections towards the mainboard, so we can easily remove the faulty component and replace it with a new good one.

Suitable for small signal operations

Integrated circuits (ICs) are suitable for small signal operation-based applications, this is due to the lowest power handling capability of ICs.

Ability to withstand higher temperature ranges

We know the integrated circuit is made with a silicon material, the temperature capacity of silicon material is high, and this is why the integrated circuit had higher temperature withstanding capability.

Low cost due to mass production

The low cost for the making of integrated circuits (ICs) is due to the enormous production of chips at a time, integrated machines are needed to make such a large amount.

Disadvantages of integrated circuits

  • The integrated circuits (ICs) had a limited amount of power handling capability
  • Very limited amount of power dissipation
  • High voltage circuits are not made with integrated circuits
  • It is not possible to fabricate a transformer and inductor inside the ICs.
  • It is not possible to modify the parameter of ICS
  • Low noise and higher voltage operation are not easily obtained
  • Integrated circuits are not flexible

Explain the disadvantage of integrated circuits

Limited amount of power handling capacity

The integrated circuits (ICs) had a very limited amount of power handling capacity, this is because of the integration of active components and limited passive components to form lower power integrated circuits.

Limited amount of power dissipation

There is no provision to attach a heat sink with integrated circuits (IC) and also at ICs there is no special integration method for power dissipation, this is why integrated circuits (ICs) had a limited amount of power dissipation.

Higher voltage circuits are not possible with ICS

The higher voltage circuits are not possible to make with integrated circuits (ICs), because the voltage capacity of integrated circuits is limited.

Impossible to fabricate a transformer and inductor inside ICS

The transformers and inductors are coil-based components, so higher current and voltage exchanges are been happen on it.

There is the possibility to attach these kinds of components inside low-power silicon-based integrated circuits.
